The “Secret Sauce”

The Secret Sauce: AKA The “Parameter Design List”

The reason Lace Link® is multi-faceted and user-friendly is due to the detailed thought behind what Doug calls his “Parameter Design List”, which encompassed compiling the specific needs of a product based on customer feedback. Aware that other cord locking devices and patents existed during this time, Doug analyzed them all and interviewed tons of consumers about the pros and cons of each device, including the bow knot. Here’s a diluted version of Doug’s Design List for the Lace Link, which had to include the following parameters:

  • Non-slipping, solid positive locking device (Some devices easily slip if there’s extra pressure placed on your shoe from high impact sports like trail running, soccer, basketball, football, etc.)
  • Durable (Must withstand wind, rain, grit, ice, sand, Iron Man comps, the washing machine)

  • Installable onto most cords/laces (No need to purchase new laces)
  • Low profile and linear in design (Some sports, like soccer, need a flat, low-profile design for better ball handling, and to prevent pressure points. The Lace Link® lies flatter than a double knot. Try it out yourself!)
  • Non-excessively movable, bouncy device (Bouncy devices are quite a nuisance during activity — Who wants a dangling device when you’re jogging)

By networking with both the average Joe as well as the elite athlete, Doug understood what customers desired and devised a remarkable product that encompassed a menagerie of their specific needs. Lace Link® is a product simplistic and small in its design, but huge in its practicality and use.
